KEY TIMELINE

January 31, 2011:

Gates first met Epstein at his Manhattan townhouse, introduced through Gates Foundation officials Melanie Walker and Boris Nikolic. Gates emailed colleagues afterward, describing Epstein's lifestyle as "very different and kind of intriguing."

2011-2014:

Gates met Epstein at least 37 times, including dinners at Epstein's townhouse and discussions about a proposed multibillion-dollar charitable fund for global health. Emails show Epstein coordinating schedules via assistants. In October 2011, an email reminded Epstein of "gates to island," though Gates denies ever visiting Epstein's private island.

February 2013:

Gates spent three consecutive days with Epstein, including meetings at the Four Seasons, evenings at his townhouse, a planned flight to Palm Beach, and lunch with Woody Allen.

2013 Emails:

Epstein drafted two emails to himself alleging Gates had extramarital sex with "Russian girls," contracted an STI, and sought to hide antibiotics from his then-wife Melinda. Gates' spokesperson called these "absolutely absurd and completely false."

March 2014:

An email from a redacted sender (likely Melanie Walker) to Epstein discusses meetings with "Bill" (Gates) and shares thoughts on immunizing the vagus nerve for infections like influenza.

2017-2019:

The relationship lingered, with Epstein emailing Gates in 2017 about a "marital dispute" with Melinda. Gates sent at least 42 emails to or through Epstein, and their ties were active as late as January 2019, six months before Epstein's arrest.

KEY FINDINGS

Proposed Fund:

Epstein proposed a donor-advised fund tied to the Gates Foundation, aiming for $100 billion in two years, but structured "at arm's length" to avoid scrutiny over profiting from charity. No such fund was created, and the Gates Foundation states no collaboration occurred.

Intermediary Role:

Epstein acted as an intermediary for Gates, including suppressing negative news stories and arranging meetings (e.g., with JPMorgan Chase CEO at Davos). He also shared Gates' itinerary for meetings with Saudi royalty.

Hush Money:

Gates paid $500,000 in "hush money" (structured as a gift) to science advisor Boris Nikolic, with Epstein relaying threats if more was demanded.

Foundation Staff:

At least 8 senior Gates Foundation staff had direct contact with Epstein, including General Counsel drafting memos for "our work" and taking direction on law firms. Melanie Walker (overseeing $315M in grants) had a 20-year friendship with Epstein, forwarding Microsoft info and pitching his ideas.

Dinners:

Bill and Melinda Gates attended a dinner at Epstein's townhouse where young women ("Eva & Celina") were mentioned but not seated. Other guests included former Norwegian PM (later charged with corruption) and Ehud Barak.

Epstein at Gates Foundation:

Documents suggest he was a "central insider" for finances and operations, with 205 meeting/dinner dates and 93 schedules involving Gates.

Melinda French Gates:

In a 2026 interview, she described the revelations as dredging up "painful times" in their marriage (they divorced in 2021 partly due to Gates' Epstein ties) and said Gates must answer for his actions.
